Holiday Office Party Dos and Don’ts
No CommentsIt is the holiday season and the time for a festive office holiday party with your co-workers! There are many embarrassing stories that can be told from past holiday parties; but if you play your cards right and follow a few simple do’s and don’ts, you could use your office holiday party as a networking opportunity and possibly make professional connections that can bring you to the next level in your organization.
Office Holiday Party Dos
• DO- Network and branch out to the co-workers you don’t know well, especially those who can help you further your career.
• DO- Dress festively, but keep it appropriate.
• DO- Get to know your co-workers on a personal level.
• DO- If you have an alcoholic beverage be responsible so you can stay level-headed. And most importantly, do not drink and drive. Either designate a driver who will not be drinking or arrange an alternate ride to take you home.
• DO- Follow up with the connections you made during the party with a simple email or phone call.
• DO- Enjoy yourself!
Office Holiday Party Don’ts
• DON’T- Talk shop.
• DON’T- Bring uninvited guests.
• DON’T- Overindulge in alcoholic beverages.
• DON’T- Gossip, complain, brag, etc. Keep it upbeat!
• DON’T- Stay on your phone the entire party. This is the time to be social with your co-workers.
• DON’T- Drive home if you had an alcoholic beverage.
• DON’T- Forget you are still subject to all company policies while at the office party (E.G. Harassment Policy)
• DON’T- Forget to thank your party’s hosts!
